Beyond the mind.

No matter how perfect they sound you can never trust words to be the truth. You can never trust thoughts to be the truth. Thoughts, feelings, perceptions, emotions keep on appearing and disappearing. The color, size, shape and texture of these thoughts feelings, emotions and perceptions keep changing in the mind. It can also be seen that one person’s perception is the exact opposite of another’s perception. And everyone is arguing over who’s perception is right. Mindfulness helps us to realize the truth that is beyond all thoughts, all ideas, all opinions. It does not need thought to validate it. Truth simply is.

The Truth of Silence

What is truth? It is pure silence, pure awareness, pure peace. Once you are grounded in this peace then you can no longer be fooled by thoughts, feelings or emotions. Also you won’t be fooled into buying into someone else’s beliefs. You will see through the untruths because you yourself came to the realization that every thought you ever held on to was just unreal. It is in that humility that you will be able to fall right through the intellectual mind into silence itself. And then that silence teaches you everything. It guides you deeper into your true self.

Remembering who we are!

What is to be remembered here is that the silence that is alluded here is the most natural thing. In fact it is the very core of our ever-present, eternal being. All sounds appear from and disappear within silence. These appearances are fleeting and temporal but what they appear in and to never changes! Unfortunately due to the years and years of conditioning and fascination for things that are perceived by the senses these appearances are accepted as the reality. The mind also has a role to play in making the real, unreal and the unreal, real. If we look deeply we realize that its not the appearances and forms that are real but the silence from which they emanate. But we can never find silence, which is our true self, because it is transparent and empty. Hence we imagine that we are a cluster of thoughts, feelings, sensations and perceptions. With that imagination an illusory self made out of thoughts, feelings and sensations comes into apparent existence. When this apparent self is unhappy it seeks happiness in conventional objects like, relationships, activities and so on. When these fail it seeks it in unconventional activities like meditation and so on. Through meditation we attempt to silence the mind which is a tremendously difficult task. It brings about temporary relief but we do not succeed in getting what we want – lasting, undisturbed peace. Ironically it is the most easiest thing in the world, easier than breathing as it does not require the mind or any particular set of circumstances. Silence is nothing other than the aware presence that is unchanging and everpresent. In otherwords just be as you are. Realizing our true selves as this silent aware presence frees us from the need for any particular set of thoughts, feelings or sensations to experience peace. This silence is who we really are and brings us the peace that transcends all circumstance and is infinite and eternal. Namaste!

Silence Sweet

In silence sweet
we may retreat
from every care and woe,
and there we’ll learn in perfect peace
all we need to know.

In silence sweet
we shall meet
the thrill of ecstasy.
and thus we’ll learn in perfect peace
we’ve nothing more to be.

In silence sweet
we shall find
all we’ve ever sought.
And thus we’ll learn in perfect peace
that all our wants were naught.

In silence sweet
we shall see
that everything is light.
And thus we’ll learn in perfect peace
there’s naught to fear but fright.

In silence sweet
we shall greet
our own true Self and Soul.
And thus we’ll learn in perfect peace
we are the timeless Whole.

In silence sweet
we shall enjoy
Eternity’s repose.
For perfect peace we e’er shall be,
Peace no mortal knows.

Deep silence

“Broken promises torment the imagination
through a shattered dream,
splintered like broken glass
into countless reflections of angst.

distorting the sense of wholeness
clinging to burdened thoughts,
clinging to faults,
clinging to blame,
to bitter acrimony from yesterday into today,
unhelpful, unwanted and undeserved.

exposing collapsed centres of inner movement
unexamined defences to this impersonal harassment
until the willingness comes to let things be
and beginner’s mind taken to heart.

in our shattered dream,
we see the way to a new beginning

Pause button

By locating the mind’s pause button we can come to know the voice that resides deep within us. This voice is the ultimate guide. It’s our intuition, timeless wisdom, and the voice of our heart. It always knows what’s best for us because it’s our greatest supporter, most attentive lover and dearest friend. What it has to tell us is more important than anything we could ever learn from the outside world – Sasha Manes
